Kitchen Island Installation

Create More "Working" Counter Space with a New Kitchen Island.

kitchen islandThe kitchen island has become the must have feature for new kitchens. And it’s no wonder. It makes the kitchen a more social place where the family can gather around.  It also serves as an added workspace. Kitchen islands come in various sizes from small to oversize. They can have a sink and a stovetop above or nothing but a countertop. They can even function as a dining table for the whole family. If you’ve always wanted a kitchen island, CabinetReface can help. We specialize not only in adding new islands where they never existed, but also in updating older islands to make them look more modern and appealing.

Be Creative with your Kitchen Island

You may assume the kitchen island has to be rectangular, most are, but do not necessarily need to be. They can be L-shaped, U-shaped or practically any shape that will fit into the center of the kitchen. You are not limited by standard designs. You can use your creativity to design the island that fits best and serves your needs. One of the best questions to ask yourself when designing a kitchen island is, “What function do I want my island to perform?”  Most kitchen islands are used for food preparation and extra workspace. But if you have a larger kitchen, it can double as a casual or even semi-formal dining location. If you’d like to add more seating, you can extend the counter on one side to create a breakfast bar.

Once you know its function, you can decide which features you’d like it to have. Cabinets and drawers provide added storage space plus you can incorporate appliances such as dishwashers, dish drawers, trash compactors, etc. You can even have a sink or cooktop built in. If your island is wide enough, you can have appliances on one side and storage on the other.

Plenty of Fun Kitchen Island Options

Color - the color of your island does not have to match that of the rest of your cabinets. A contrasting color adds interest to your kitchen. A rich wood color on your island adds warmth to lighter colored cabinets. A deep red, navy or dark green island with wood finished doors and drawers creates a beautiful and unexpected contrast. Soften a dark wood finish kitchen with a pale butter yellow or creamy ivory island. A black island can bring drama to any kitchen.

Shape – sure your island can be rectangular, but there are many other options. Think outside of the box shape and consider, U-shaped, L-shaped, T-shaped, curved, round or oval, even octagon or wedge shaped.

Countertops – the countertop is the most visual part of the island. There are hundreds of choices. It can match the other countertops or can stand alone. You can even mix countertop types within your island. For instance, you could have wood on the eating surface and granite on the food prep or cooktop areas.

Woodwork – molding and trim can turn a ho-hum island into a showpiece. We have dozens of beautiful options to choose from – beautifully carved corbels, brackets and moldings, wood feet, posts and legs that make your island look more like a piece of furniture than just an island, and much more.

Built-in Appliances – create a new home for your dishwasher, and extra oven or microwave, mini refrigerator, wine cooler, ice maker, trash compactor, warming drawer, whatever fits your lifestyle best.

Sinks
– if your island is a workspace, a sink is a must. We have hundreds of sink options from size and shape to material Any sink can dropped into the countertop or pre-molded into the countertop design.
